Homeowners must own and live in the home as of January 1st of the assessment year in which they are applying.  This exemption defers for four years any increase in the assessment of your property due to an addition or other improvement to your home to which the Assessor would add value. The exemption requires that the improvement must add additional square footage to the existing living area.  Such as, but not limited to, garages, decks, porches, patios, room additions, etc.   The maximum amount of this exemption is $75,000 market value or $25,000 assessed.


Homeowners’ exemption – Homeowners must live in and own the home as of January 1st of the assessment year in which they are applying.  There is no age requirement on this exemption.  The owner is required to notify the Supervisor of Assessments Office of their residency.  Once the exemption is applied, it will remain on until a change of residency or ownership occurs.  No annual renewal is required.  The amount of this exemption is $6,000 maximum based on the increase in assessment from the 1977 equalized assessed value.
