The Disabled Persons’ Homestead Exemption provides an annual $2000 reduction in the equalized assessed value of the property owned and occupied as the primary residence on January 1st of the assessment year, by a disabled person who is liable for the payment of property taxes. Proof of disability (ex. Award Letter) or Physician’s statement (PTAX-343-A) is required to qualify for this exemption. Please review the PTAX-343 General Information for other qualifying documentation.

The disabled persons (PTAX-343-R) renewal must be filed each year by May 1st with proof of disability to the Supervisor of Assessments Office to continue this exemption.  Failure to file your renewal may result in the termination of this exemption.

If you are unable to provide other documentation as proof of your disability, you and a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse, physician assistant, or optometrist must complete Form PTAX-343-A. You are responsible for any physicians’ costs. Note: Certification by a licensed Optometrist is limited to disabilities related to visual impairment.
